Engineering Design Services
Civil, Structural & Geotechnical Design You Can Build On
At TILT Engineering & Design, we bring together deep technical expertise, creative thinking, and practical understanding of construction to deliver designs that work — safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.
From early-stage concept design to detailed construction drawings and temporary works, we provide a complete engineering design service trusted by contractors, developers, and asset owners across the UK.
We love what we do and our passion will show through in to your projects.
Our Approach to Design
We believe the best design solutions balance budget, innovation, practicality, and buildability.
Our engineers work closely with clients, contractors, and regulators to ensure every project is technically robust, fully compliant, and optimised for real-world delivery.
We combine:
- Design innovation driven by real-world construction experience
- Technical rigour from chartered engineers across multiple disciplines
- Sustainability and resilience at the heart of every design decision
Whether you’re developing new infrastructure, refurbishing existing assets, or designing temporary works, our goal is simple — to make your project stronger, safer, and smarter.
Our Engineering Design Disciplines
Civil Engineering Design
Delivering infrastructure solutions that connect people and places.
We design earthworks, drainage, foundations, and coastal or riverside assets, integrating environmental and planning considerations from the start.
- Infrastructure and drainage design
- Road and access works
- Marine and coastal structures
- Flood and erosion mitigation schemes
Structural Engineering Design
From simple steelwork to complex reinforced concrete structures, we create safe, durable, and efficient designs tailored to your site conditions and construction method.
- Permanent and temporary structures
- Retaining walls and sheet pile systems
- Reinforced concrete and steel frame design
- Structural verification and peer review
Geotechnical Engineering Design
Understanding the ground is fundamental to every successful project.
Our geotechnical team provides the insight and analysis needed to design stable, sustainable foundations and slopes — reducing risk from the ground up.
- Ground investigation interpretation
- Foundation and retaining structure design
- Slope stability assessment
- Ground improvement solutions
Temporary Works & Construction Support
We understand the demands of live construction environments.
Our engineers design temporary works that make construction safe, efficient, and compliant with CDM and BS 5975 standards — from cofferdams and crane platforms to formwork and propping systems.
- Temporary works design and checking
- Stability and load assessment
- Methodology support and sequencing
- On-site design liaison

FAQs
What project stages can TILT support?
From concept and feasibility through preliminary and detailed design to construction support, temporary works, and as-built verification. You can engage us for a single stage or end-to-end delivery.
Do you design temporary works and provide checks?
Yes. We design and check temporary works in line with BS 5975, including stability, sequencing and load paths. We can act as an independent checker where required
What information do you need to start design?
Drawings or sketches, site constraints, programme and budget context, any ground investigation or survey data, service records, and the intended construction methodology if known. If you don’t have these yet, we’ll help you scope them.
How do you ensure designs are buildable and cost-effective?
We collaborate early with client and contractor teams, assess construction risk, and iterate details for buildability, procurement practicality, and lifecycle value—reducing rework and time on site.
Can you assist with planning, consents and stakeholder liaison?
Absolutely. We prepare the drawings, calculations and technical notes required for planning, EA/Marine consents and other approvals, and we can liaise directly with regulators.
What are the typical deliverables?
Calculations, GA and detail drawings, specifications, method notes, temporary works designs/check notes, design risk assessments, and design certificates as needed.
Do you work on marine/coastal and flood projects?
Yes. Our civil, structural and geotechnical teams regularly deliver flood defences, quay and river walls, pontoons, and erosion mitigation schemes.
